England Eye Levelling Series in Second Test against Pakistan

engNew Delhi, Friday, July 22 – The stage is set for England and Pakistan to contest in Old Trafford in Manchester, which is to host the second Test today. The English team is down already in the ongoing series and would not wish to get a back seat this time. Here is to describe that England have fallen behind in a Test series just for once prior to the current one against Pakistan in the last one and a half years.

Not to forget that England succumbed to spin against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates in the 3-match Test series held last year from October 13 to November 1. Pakistan eventually made them lose the series by winning the second and third Tests held at Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium by 178 runs and 127 runs, respectively, after the opening Test at Sheikh Zayed Stadium ended in a draw.

Leg break spin bowler Yasir Shah, who received ‘Player of the Match’ award for picking up ten wickets at Lord’s, is one of the biggest threats for the rivals. His presence in the team is enough to haunt England, who were confident of winning the first Test taking into consideration memorable wins in the series against Sri Lanka by defeating them in all format. England will look forward to come up with a solution of how to tackle Pakistan’s bowling attack as they would not wish to succumb to a familiar face as they did recently. The England are very much looking forward to a quick bounce back in the second Test match, which is to start in a short while.

It was just not that England were bad in the first Test but they missed the opportunity to be victorious in the end as they couldn’t save wickets from falling. Yasir Shah, Mohammad Amir, Rahat Ali and Wahab Riaz were able to restrict opponents when England needed substantial runs to win. Mood of the track will be pivotal to watch. Since wicket of the previous venue assisted the spinners on more than a few occasions, it will be a major point to notice rises today, utilizing the circumstances. Here is to mention that the wicket could put the England management in a state of doubt whom to slot into the playing XI  and whom to leave as it is a matter about winning.

It is interesting for the viewers to notice who among James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Adil Rashid, Steven Finn, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, James Vince, Chris Woakes, Gary Ballance, Moeen Ali, Alex Hales, Joe Root and Jake Ball will be in the team that will play against Pakistan. Alastair Cook’s captaincy will also be imperative. Viewers ponder whether Rashid will be in the team replacing the one who did not perform well in the first Test or not. Pakistan squad may have no change since it is likely that the team goes with the winning combination of the previous game. Expectations of Misbah-ul-Haq, who struck a ton in his first-ever Test on English turf, from Sarfraz Ahmed, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Amir, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Yasir Shah, Rahat Ali, Sami Aslam, Imran Khan, Zulfiqar Babar, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood, Iftikhar Ahmed, Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez will be up.

The key issue to be talked though will be the shakiness of middle and lower batting orders of England. They did not excelled in recent times that made England lose grip in the first encounter. Consistency in the performance will be a challenge for Pakistan though. It is a time to not get unworried regardless of logging an impressive win lately. Each match is new and has distinct conditions. Both fast and spin bowlers got to play a massive role, changing line and length to not let opponents properly use bounce of the pitch. To cut a long story short, contributions by each member in the play are vital and have terrific significances. If Pakistan could upset the English attack particularly with their ability to spin the ball, it will be an achievement. Pakistan will look forward to take lead 2-0, while on the other hand, focus of England will be not let it go and let level series 1-1. Winning the toss and making a decision to either bat or ball first may or may not turn right of one of the skippers. Curtains will be off the truth who shines today and who fails to be at par with soaring hopes of cricket fans.
